Consulting Doubles Grand Prix

Rules for 2012

The four tournaments which make up the Consulting Doubles Grand Prix (CDGP) are open to all players. Wherever possible, elite players (identified with the aid of a list based on our handicapping system) will be kept apart in the pairings.

All the tournaments are individual competitions in their own right. However, over the year, points will be accrued by all entrants based on their achievements in whichever events they enter.

Approximately 5% will be levied from all entry fees to cover the provision of year end prizes, and a further 5% will be charged by Bristol Backgammon for admin expenses. The remainder of the entry fee money goes on prizes for the individual tournaments.

In each tournament there will be two flights of straight knock-out, with all matches in both flights being played to 5 points.

Pairs eliminated in their first match of the main flight will be entered into the consolation flight.

From 2011 all matches in the CDGP became subject to clock rules, with each pair having a 15 minutes time bank, with 15 seconds delay.

N.B: In the event of an odd number of entries to the main flight, it is possible that one pair may gain entry to the consolation flight after losing their second match of the main flight. In which case that pair would only benefit by their higher scoring flight.

The points awarded as per the above table are awarded to individuals and not to pairs. This is because nobody can be sure that the same partner will always be available, so some flexibility is required for pairings.
Each individual's best two tournament points performances (changed from best three after the cancellation of the April event) will count towards his/her final total, thus anyone entering all three (changed from four) tournaments will discard his/her lowest point score.
In the event of a tie on total points, there will be just two levels of tie-break: (1) fewest tournaments entered during the CDGP season; (2) highest percentage of wins in all CDGP matches throughout the year. Should these criteria fail to separate players, they will be deemed to have finished equal.

The rewards

The four players (plus ties) finishing with the most CDGP points at the end of the year will receive engraved mementoes.
